Building Stronger Community Sport Leadership Through CLC in Gaborone

Fourty participants from Sport for All organisations and Ministry of Sport and Arts (MOSA) offices in Gaborone and surrounding areas came together in Gaborone from 13–16 October 2026 for the TAFISA Certified Leadership Course (CLC), a four-day programme designed to strengthen leadership and improve the delivery of community sport initiatives.

Representing areas including Mochudi, Mogoditshane, Molepolole, Ramotswa and Kanye, participants brought together different experiences and perspectives, united by a shared opportunity to strengthen Sport for All in their communities.

The course focused on building participants' capacity to plan, manage and deliver community sport initiatives that respond to local needs and create more inclusive opportunities for people to participate in sport and physical activity. Facilitated by Game Mothibi and Malebo Raditladi, the programme provided a foundation for participants to move from learning to practical implementation.

From learning to community action

The level1  is the beginning of a longer learning journey. Participants are expected to continue with CLC Level 2 in January 2027, followed by the implementation of community projects.

This next phase will allow participants to apply their knowledge, respond to priorities within their communities and translate their ideas into practical initiatives. The focus is not only on developing skills, but also on equipping community leaders to put those skills to use where they are needed most.

Building a legacy beyond Gaborone 2027

The timing of the course is significant as Botswana prepares to host the 30th TAFISA World Congress in October 2027, under the theme "Sport for All: Investing in Active Futures."

While the Congress will bring together the international Sport for All community in Gaborone, developing local leadership is equally important. The knowledge, partnerships and community projects that emerge from the CLC can help ensure that the benefits extend beyond the Congress itself. These 40 participants have an opportunity to contribute to a lasting legacy, one built not only through hosting a global event, but through stronger community initiatives and more people experiencing the benefits of Sport for All.

Through the Certified Leadership Course, TAFISA, BNSC  and MOSA are investing in people who can strengthen community sport and create more opportunities for participation across Botswana
